09:47:18 From Terry Maros : The TMUG Steering Committee would like to announce that due to Covid-19 and our meetings being virtually interactive through Zoom, we will not be requiring any membership fees during the 2020/2021 session.  TMUG wants you to enjoy the meetings with our compliments and encourages you to spread the love to your friends and family that wish to join us at upcoming meetings.

10:18:46 From kennethgassman : If a file on my computer is corrupt, and I back it up, isn’t it also a corrupt backup?  I guess Time Machine is one way to avoid that.  Any other ways?

10:19:29 From Terry Maros : I have used many cloud services, most save several versions of a file

10:19:59 From kennethgassman : Versions similar to Time Machine?

10:20:32 From Terry Maros : your current version may get corrupt but an early version may be ok

10:20:50 From kennethgassman : Thanks!

10:20:52 From Terry Maros : You may lose a little but usually not all

10:33:32 From kennethgassman : Are photos stored in iCloud full size, full resolution?

10:39:13 From EdShearin : Yes, but when you go over 5gb, you must pay for more storage.

10:40:19 From Terry Maros : Apple photos store in full size but iPads and iPhones have a setting to store on the mobile device optimized for those devices

10:47:52 From Terry Maros : 12” macbook Apple Silicon with Big Sur due before the end of the year

10:48:07 From carolynmiller to Terry Maros (Privately) : Is Versions a separate software?

10:49:04 From Terry Maros to carolynmiller (Privately) : No, the file you are creating is saved multiple times and stored on the cloud, you do not see them unless you use a browser and see the files directly on the server

10:50:32 From Terry Maros to carolynmiller (Privately) : Dropbox and google drive save all files as versions, you can bring back a file that was erased and you need back

10:50:37 From kennethgassman : Anyone use Pixelmator Pro?  (It is a great leap from old Pixelmator).  I’m testing it and very impressed; it’s on sale for less than $28 in App Store. Any recommendations or thoughts?

10:51:14 From carolynmiller to Terry Maros (Privately) : Thanks.

10:53:03 From Linda Weldon : Different topic:  I have a laptop cover with the keyboard folded, when open it is a stand with keyboard.  Recently iPad has said this device not supported.  How do I return to use of external keypad?  What happened that it doesn’t work anymore?  No battery to recharge.

10:54:01 From Rick Thomas : If iCloud stores your data, what is iCloud Drive?

10:55:25 From Rick Thomas : Does Time Machine also store apps and applications as well as files?

10:57:47 From Terry Maros : iCloud stores apple created documents,  iCloud Drive can store other docs not create by apple software

11:00:40 From Terry Maros : time machine stores everything but if rebuilding software, it is best to install from the App Store if that is where it was bought so you get the most updated software

11:07:43 From Terry Maros : Restart your iPad

Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.

Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

11:07:45 From kennethgassman : I set my new Time Machine HD to back up both my iMac and the attached 1TB SSD.  I had to tell TM to backup both HDs, and it seems to work.

11:07:59 From Linda Weldon : FYI… rebooted and keyboard works.  Thanks for the tip

11:08:36 From Terry Maros : Im glad reboot worked

11:12:49 From kennethgassman : How do we let Marguerite know?  Does she have a direct e-mail?

11:14:30 From Terry Maros : treasurer@transylvaniamug.org
